Best Spring Books for Toddlers & Young Kids
We are all so. ready. for spring. Am I right?
Before having kids, I always loved implementing seasonal and themed books into therapy sessions whenever possible. As a mom of a 3YO & 4YO, I love storing our seasonal books. When it’s time to pull them out, it feels like old friends. Seriously. One of the best things? My kids have come to love the day we pull out seasonal books for whatever is coming up next! It feels like Christmas morning without buying any presents, and that is a parenting win.
So let’s get into it! Our current *growing list* of spring favorites, sorted by topic. See tips at the end for just some of the many ways you can use shared book reading to support your child’s speech & language skills!

Encouraging Language Skills:
- Describe actions in pictures
- Modeling gestalts: turn the page, look at that! I found it! What’s next?
- Imitate your child’s actions as they point, imitate any words they say and add one word
- Instead of asking “what’s this?” Label pictures that you see and describe (e.g., instead of “what’s this? Model “green frog!”
- Focus on modeling language in general instead of asking questions
Improving Speech Sounds:
Choose sounds that you know your child struggles to produce (e.g., /th/ ) and have them practice with you as you read together. Here’s how this might look:
Text: “I think I can”
“There’s our /th/ sound! Let’s say it together – think! Try to get your child watching your mouth as you practice together.
